Accessing DBT in Ireland
DBT and other DBT based programmes are available in many areas of the country, for more information on the programmes available in your area, please see the map below or contact your local GP or community mental health team.
DBT is not yet available in every part of Ireland but training is underway to build more teams with a long term aim of providing DBT and other DBT based programmes nationwide.
Accessing DBT
To attend a DBT programme you need to be recommended by your consultant psychiatrist and their treatment team (community mental health team).
A member of the team will complete a standard referral form which will outline your mental health history and main difficulties.
This will be signed by the consultant psychiatrist on behalf of the team. On receipt of the referral, you will be offered: an initial assessment appointment with an individual DBT therapist from the programme. Typically you will meet this person 4-6 times for pre- screening. The aim of these sessions is to complete a number of assessment measures with you, to give you further information about the programme and to ensure that you will be willing to fully commit to the programme
